WILD'ERB OIL BLEND INGREDIENTS

BARBERRY (Berberis vulgaris) “Barberry Bush”
Contains berberine, which has a wide spectrum of biological and anti-bacterial activity. Useful against infection. Astringent, antiseptic. The herb also contains the B-vitamin thiamine, vitamin C, the carotenoids beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, chromium, cobalt, and zinc. Medicinal use of barberry dates back at least to the time of ancient Egypt, when it was combined with fennel seed to prevent plague.

ECHINACEA (Echinacea purpurea) “Coneflower”
Echinacea has traditionally been used to treat or prevent colds, flu, and other infections. It is believed to stimulate the immune system to help fight infections. Less commonly, echinacea has been used for wounds and skin problems, such as acne or boils.
ELDERFLOWERS (Sambucus canadensis) “American Elder”
Astringent, emollient. Keeps skin soft and clean. For piles, burns, boils, bruises, sprains, eczema, sores, ulcers, pain, swelling.
GOLDENROD (Solidago canadensis) “Golden Rod”
Styptic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory. For insect bites, scrapes, abrasions, wounds, arthritis, rheumatism, neuralgia. Contains quercetin, a compound reportedly useful in treating hemorrhagic nephritis. The genus name Solidago is based on the Greek word “solidus,” to make whole, referring to the plant’s medicinal properties. The dried flowers were powdered and sprinkled on open wounds that would not heal.
MALLOW
Has a mucus membrane protective effect; relieves irritation because of the high level of muculagous material. Used for irritations of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa, dry irritation coughs. Anti-inflammatory, diuretic, expectorant, emollient. Acclaimed as a demulcent (soothes irritated or inflamed mucous membrane). For coughs, hoarseness, sore throats and stomachaches. Digestive system stimulator. Has a soothing effect on inflammation and irritation of the alimentary canal and of the urinary and respiratory organs. Used internally for inflammation and ulceration of the digestive tract, hiatal hernia, excess mucus, asthma, urinary tract infections, irritating coughs.
MULLEIN (Verbascum thapsus) “Our Lady’s Flannel, Beggar’s Stalk…”
For ulcers, tumors, piles, inflamed skin, eczema, hemorrhoids, wounds. Experimentally, strongly anti-inflammatory.

POKE (Phytolacca americana) “Poke Root”
Poke root is considered to be a blood and lymphatic purifying herb, taken internally for cleansing and removal of boils, sores, etc. Poke root is highly regarded by herbalists for its cleansing and stimulating effects upon the glandular system. It has been found useful in reducing inflammation and helpful in relieving arthritis and rheumatism symptoms. With its natural anti-inflammatory properties, poke root is wonderful to relieve itching. Also helpful in treating fungal infections, scabies, eczema, and acne. It can be taken internally, or made into a salve for external use.

RED CLOVER (Trifolium pratense) “Purple Clover”
For chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Red clover has also been used to treat coughs and respiratory system congestion, because it also contains resin. Resinous substances in plants have expectorating, warming, and antimicrobial action. It has been used in alternative medicine for cancer treatment, with some evidence of anti-tumor activity, and because of red clover’s ability to stimulate the immune system.
ST. JOHN’S WORT (Hypericum perforatum) “St. John’s Wort”
Heals wounds, bruises, burns, varicose veins. For muscle and joint inflammations. Experimentally has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Very useful for healing sunburn.
USNEA (Usnea barbata) “Old Man’s Beard”
Usnea contains Usnic acid, essential fatty acids, and sterols. Used in major treatment of the mucous membrane system: lungs, intestines, throat, sinuses, urinary and reproductive tract. Antibiotic and anti-fungal. Usnea is not really a plant at all, but is actually a lichen, which is a combination of algae and fungi, functioning as a single organism.
VIPER BUGLOSS (Echium vulgare) “Borage, Blueweed…”
Diuretic, demulcent and pectoral. The leaves, especially those growing near the root, make a good cordial on infusion, which operates by perspiration to alleviate fevers, headaches and nervous complaints. Also helpful in relieving pain caused by inflammation. Contains Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), beta-carotene, choline, mucilage, fiber, B vitamins, and trace minerals.
WILD CARROT (Daucus carota) “Queen Anne’s Lace”
Wild Carrot is a cleansing natural herb used in medicinal infusion to soothe the digestive tract, and to treat kidney and bladder diseases. It supports the liver, and stimulates the flow of urine and the removal of waste by the kidneys. An essential oil obtained from the seed has also been used cosmetically in anti-wrinkle creams.
WILD MINT (Pycnanthemum) “Mountain Mint”
The fresh or dried leaves are brewed into a refreshing mint-like medicinal herb tea tonic that is an alternative analgesic, antiseptic, diaphoretic, carminative, and emmenagogue. Also used in alternative medicine in the treatment of menstrual disorders, indigestion, mouth sores and gum disease, colic, coughs, colds, chills, and fevers. Used topically for soothing irritated skin, and for relieving pain.

WINTERCRESS (Barbarea vulgaris) “Bittercress”
Wintercress is high in vitamin C and minerals. It is used as a bitter medicinal tea to stimulate appetite, purify and strengthen blood, for coughs, and as a diuretic. Used externally as a poultice to help heal wounds. Wintercress is rich in vitamin C and A, and was a typical anti-scurvy plant in the days before vitamin C became readily available.

YARROW (Achillea millefolium) “Bloodwort”
For oily skin, rashes, bruises, piles, bleeding, varicose veins, inflamed joints. Aids in the healing of wounds. Experimentally, extracts are hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, astringent and antiseptic. Over 100 biologically active compounds have been identified from this plant.
